The Federal Government will amend income tax laws to restore the long-standing taxation treatment of call options issued by companies.
In a statement, Treasurer Wayne Swan said the amendments would provide certainty for taxpayers and apply from the 2001-02 income year.
Legislation to give effect to the announcement will be introduced as soon as is practical, the statement said.
Companies routinely use call options as a mechanism for raising capital from their shareholders.
