Bennelong Funds Management is set to welcome two new directors, including a new chair, following the retirement of Lincoln McMahon at the end of this year.

McMahon has served as a non-executive director since 2016 and was named chair of the Bennelong Funds Management (BFML) and Bennelong Funds Management Group (BFMG) boards in November 2023.

He has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry across a variety of senior roles and responsibilities, including as COO and CFO at BlackRock Australia and CEO of HSBC’s Mexican wealth management businesses.

He is set to retire from his role on 31 December 2024 and will be succeeded as chair by Campbell Fleming on the BFMG board and existing board member Gillian Larkins on the BFML board.

Fleming brings over 35 years of experience in asset management and financial services to the firm. His career highlights include leading the distribution integration at Aberdeen Asset Management during its merger with Standard Life and serving as chief executive – EMEA and global COO at Columbia Threadneedle Investments.

He has also held senior roles at JPMorgan Asset Management, Robert Fleming Asset Management, and Abrdn.

Meanwhile, Anil Nair will also join the Bennelong board as a non-executive director, bringing over 25 years of experience across construction, alternative investments, hospitality, real estate and media sectors in Australia, Europe and the Middle East.

Bennelong chief executive John Burke unveiled the refreshed board as he paid tribute to McMahon’s tenure at the asset manager.

“Anil and Campbell’s experience will provide invaluable insights as the business continues its evolution. We welcome them on board and look forward to their insights and advice in growing the business both in Australia and globally,” Burke said.

“Gillian’s experience in senior roles within financial services makes her an excellent independent chair for us.

“Lincoln has been an excellent resource. We thank him for his leadership and wish him all the best in the future.”

Jeff Chapman AM, Bennelong founder and sole shareholder, said he was delighted to welcome the strong talent to the board.

“I thank Lincoln for his service, and I am delighted to be able to welcome such proven international industry talents to join Gillian Larkins, Jeremy Cooper and John Burke on the Bennelong boards,” he said.

“Anil Nair and Campbell Fleming are both well-recognised for their leadership qualities, as well as their well-earned ‘champions of change’ track records.”

Earlier this year, former ASIC deputy chair Jeremy Cooper came on board as a non-executive director, moving from Challenger, where he worked as chairman of retirement income for over a decade.
