Damien Hatfield
Former Basis Capital director Rick Bernie has been appointed to head up distribution at boutique hedge fund research and advisory firm Hatfield Liptak Advisors.
Bernie, who was a director at the failed Basis Capital for seven years, will work alongside the founders of the firm, Damien Hatfield and Daniel Liptak.
According to Hatfield, Bernie has joined the firm following its first year of operations, during which time there has been a significant change in sentiment towards hedge funds.
“In the last year, we have seen a record bull market retreat into a cave of uncertainty, fuelled by debt pressures on equity markets and the evaporation of capital funding,” he said. “Investors across Australia, Europe and the US are requiring assistance with how to access, select and monitor quality alpha-generating funds that can help keep their portfolios buoyant.”
Hatfield said the role of Hatfield Liptak was to match the risk return profiles of investors with managers it believed demonstrated the necessary rigour and skills to deliver results.
