The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has announced an extension to the deadline for current superannuation guarantee charge statements for those affected by bushfire and floods in Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales.
The deadline for superannuation guarantee charge statements for the quarter ending December 31, 2008, has been extended from March 2, 2009, to May 28, 2009.
“This extension of the superannuation guarantee charge statements will remove the risk of employers in those areas from being penalised for late lodgement,” tax commissioner Michael D’Ascenzo said.
“However, I do not have discretion in relation to the nominal interest component of the charge which is charged to employers who have not made contributions to a fund on time.”
The ATO has previously announced that it will cease sending correspondence, such as activity statements, to addresses in affected areas and extend due dates for lodging activity statements.
The ATO has set up a dedicated emergency support information line (1300 304 975) for those who wish to discuss their circumstances.
