Chessari’s appointment follows Peter Johnson’s move last month from the position of managing director to chairman. Chessari was previ-ously general manager of investments with ANZ Funds Management. Prior to that he was general manager ANZ Trustees and ANZ Funds Management Legal Counsel.

Chifley Financial Services has bolstered its push into the both the wholesale and retail markets with two recent appointments.

Former GIO financial planner Richard McGrath has taken up the posi-tion of senior planning consultant, joining two other former GIO ex-ecutives at Chifley, Paul Kofod and John Hildred.

On the wholesale side, Chifley’s marketing manager Karen Rossiter has moved to a busines development role at the group in the corporate su-perannuation market.

Former Norwich Union executive Vic West has been hired by Remunerator (Australia) to set up a financial services arm for the group.

The new company, Remunerator Financial Services, will offer full fi-nancial planning for its existing 20,000 customers as well as vehicle leasing and mortgages.

Merrill Lynch Mercury has hired long-standing BT Funds Management ex-ecutive Jo Warne as a strategist.

Warne will work in building up the group’s asset allocation strate-gies alongside David Hudson, who is the chief strategist and chairman of Merrill Lynch Mercury’s asset allocation committee.

Warne was previously a vice president with BT Funds Management where she had been for the past ten years, mostly in economist and client advising roles.

Derani Brewis has joined Tower Life Australia as the group’s sales manager for investment products under the Tower Employee Benefits scheme.

Prior to signing up with Tower, Brewis was the manager of corporate services with Prudential Portfolio Managers. She has also held a similar position with Colonial First State Funds Management.

A new 10-member Commonwealth Consumer Affairs Advisory Council (CCAAC) has been appointed to advise Financial Services Minister Joe Hockey on issues including privacy, superannuation, financial serv-ices, investment and electronic commerce.

“The council will perform an important role in giving me independent advice on the current or likely impact on consumers of developments in the Australian market,” Hockey says.

The council will be chaired by Australian Banking Industry Ombudsman Colin Neave. Other prominent members include retired former NSW con-sumer affairs commissioner Gregory Bartels, Australian Consumers’ As-sociation chief Louise Sylvan, university student May Miller-Dawkins and former indigenous education officer Emmanuel Hegarty.

Brent Carr has been promoted to the position of senior consultant at Frank Russell.

Carr has been with Frank Russell in Australia since 1988 and a direc-tor of Russell Analytical Services since 1990.

Prior to joining Frank Russell, Carr operated and developed his own retail business in Sydney. He was a financial consultant from 1980 to 1984 with Davey & Associates, which was recently acquired by Charter-bridge Financial Management.

Meanwhile, Frank Russell’s UK operation has appointed Eric Kwan and Karol Klawikowski to its manager research department.

Kwan has had seven years experience in the investment management in-dustry and is a chartered financial analyst. He joins Frank Russell as a research analyst on the global team.

Klawikowski has had eight years experience in the finance industry and is a qualified accountant. He joins Russell as a research analyst on the UK team.

AM Corporation chief financial officer John Clark has been promoted to become AM’s first chief operating officer.

According to the group, Clark has been a key member of AM’s team since starting with the group 1995.

In other developments, David Harley has been appointed as AM Corpora-tion’s national manager, private funds services. Prior to his ap-pointment, Harley was state manager for Sedgwick Noble Lowndes finan-cial planning arm in Queensland.

AM Corporation’s Melbourne office has also appointed former Advance Funds Management staffer Helene Mayne as business development manager.

Mercantile Mutual has appointed Stuart Rowe (PIC) as national man-ager, marketing and consulting for corporate superannuation.

Rowe will be responsible for the marketing and development of the Mercantile Mutual Master Trust and was previously group marketing manager with Legal & General Financial Services.

Glenn Ashelford (PIC) has moved into a newly created position with Lumley Technology as marketing manager – life insurance.

The role will see Ashford responsible for product development, market and customer research, quality assurance, technical support and new business development.

He will be specifically responsible for designing the future direction of Lumley Technology’s ATLAS system, and is heading up the team working on developing applications for the next generation of funds management and life insurance soft-ware.
