Life insurer AIA Australia has renewed its partnership with Mental Health Foundation SuperFriend for another five years to help improve and maintain mental health.
The national initiative aims to educated individuals, employers, and workplaces about mental health and wellbeing. SuperFriend’s mission is to reduce the incidence of suicide and the impact of mental illness.
Mental illness is one of the top three life insurance claims and is estimated to cost around $160 million a year in income protection and disability claims.
AIA Australia’s chief executive, Damien Mu, said occupational rehabilitation has been a big focus of its business to establish successful intervention and management of workplace illness and injury.
“By ensuring employers and workers are properly educated in how to identify, understand and manage mental health issues, we are better able to ensure early intervention before these issues start to seriously affect a worker’s everyday life and ability to do their job,” Mu said.
