Australian superannuation fund members have been rewarded by another year of double-digit returns, according to the latest data released by Intech Investment consultants.
According to the Intech data, growth-oriented super funds included in the Intech Growth Universe, posted a median return of 15.9 per cent for 2005-06, following returns of 13.3 per cent in 2004-05 and 13.9 in 2003-04.
According to Intech, the strong result was driven by the Australian share market with international equities also making a strong contribution.
Commenting on the strong returns, Intech’s senior consultant Andrew Korbel commented that superannuation funds were experiencing a golden period that would ultimately have to come to an end.
According to the Intech data the top-performing fund in financial year to date terms was AMP Balanced Growth, followed by Invesco, BT, Merrill Lynch and Zurich.
