The Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) has announced it has appointed former AFA Treasurer and NSW director Deborah Kent as national president.

Kent takes over former national president Michael Nowak, and will remain president for a two-year term, it was announced at the AFA National Adviser Conference in Cairns.

Kent is the chair of the AFA Inspire initiative and has owned financial planning practice Integra Financial Services for over 18 years.

She was appointed AFA Treasurer earlier this year from the role of NSW state director.

"Deb has already made a significant contribution to the AFA and is well-equipped to lead the association," AFA CEO Brad Fox said.

"She brings experience, enthusiasm and candour to what is a very demanding role."

Former Victorian state director Steve Crawford has been made Treasurer.

The AFA also announced its new members for its board of directors, including JBS Financial Strategists founder Jenny Brown as vice president, Rising Tide Financial Services managing director Chris Browne as Victorian state director, and James Ford as Western Australia state director.
