Mick Jones heads underwriting at MLC Life
MLC Life Insurance has appointed current chief underwriter of HSBC in Hong Kong, Mick Jones, as the new head of underwriting, effective August.
In his new role, Jones would lead and enhance the performance of MLC Life Insurance’s underwriting team nationally and promote the insurer’s automated underwriting platform to make it easier and more efficient for advisers and customers to get cover.
Jones has 30 years’ experience in underwriting, life insurance and reinsurance, including leading the transformation of the underwriting and claims management processes for HSBC in Hong Kong.
Chief underwriting officer, Debbie Kennedy, said Jones’ experience across Australia and Asia would be invaluable as underwriting hits the digital age.
Jones said he looked forward to joining the MLC Life Insurance team following its acquisition by Nippon Life.
“They want to take underwriting out of the back office and move it to the front office, supported by the use of data and analytics,” he said.
