Cock a doodle doo to feather duster

Timing is everything. In Outsider’s experience today’s rooster can be tomorrow’s feather duster.

Thus, he has some sympathy for Institute of Managed Accounts Professionals boss, Toby Potter, who must have signed-off on the cover story and image in his organisation’s quarterly magazine Managed Account Perspectives – that of Sam “the Money Man” Henderson – months ago.

How could Potter and his magazine editor, Outsider’s erstwhile colleague, Jayson Forrest, have known that Sam the Money Man was to become notable for more reasons than his appearances on Sky television, Channel 9, his scribbling in the Australian Financial Review and the sale of his planning business to Paul Barrett’s AZ NGA.

It may have taken Sam the Money Man close to a decade to build his reputation but it took the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry barely half a day to achieve some serious erosion not least around a Henderson Maxwell staffer impersonating a client to extract information from the client’s superannuation fund.

Senior Counsel assisting the Royal Commission, Rowena Orr QC suggested that it was open to the Commissioner to find Maxwell might be open to a charge of misconduct.

It is a measure of the fickleness of the industry in which Outsider works, that Sam the Money Man appears to no longer enjoy his television and print media gigs, but he can take heart in the knowledge that he will always be front and centre of the cover of the

Autumn edition of IMAP’s Autumn 2018 edition of Managed Account Perspectives.

Outsider knows that people in glass houses should never throw stones but cock a doodle doo.
