China will continue to be something of an X factor for advisers and investors as they move further into 2018, according to Stephen van Eyk.

Van Eyk, who will be the scene-setting keynote speaker at Money Management’s forthcoming free Investment Analysts Forum is pointing to the fact that while the bulls continue to significantly outnumber the bears in terms of investment in 2018, there is reason to be cautious, particularly where interpreting the direction of Chinese Government policy is concerned.

Giving some perspective to the China X-factor will be Premium China Fund executive director, Jonathan Wu who has already pointed to the decisions that investors are likely to be forced to make this year, and who yesterday noted that the Hang Seng Index had on Thursday hit an all-time high.

“People are continuing to direct their attention to US equities but when you look at the fundamentals, Hong Kong appears very attractive,” he said.

Wu also noted the importance of geopolitics in the investment equation and the growing influence of China.
