Challenging conventions gets Gosling top gong
Investment Manager of the Year: Susan Gosling, NAB Asset Management
Susan Gosling, NAB Asset Management’s head of investments, has been named Investment Manager of the Year.
Defying the status quo, cultivating processes and developing team members were the reasons Gosling stood out from her contemporaries for the judges.
“Susan has operated at the highest echelons of investment, challenged conventional wisdom, developed models and processes and importantly seen them through into action in client portfolios.”
The judges also commended Gosling’s commitment to the wider community, business and industry.
“Susan has developed her team members and colleagues and also spent considerable time supporting the community and those less well off,” the judges said.
“Susan has made an outstanding contribution for many years to the investment industry and has a diverse contribution across business, academia and the community. In addition to strong performance and the successful launch of new products, she has been a vocal but modest contributor to the investment industry.”
Finalist Catherine Allfrey from WaveStone Capital was also commended for her work both in investment management and in the wider community
“Catherine has had an incredible career to date managing investments, growing a business, taking strategic risks and delivering on all fronts. Despite the time commitments associated with her work and family, Catherine has dedicated considerable time to community and charitable initiatives that she feels passionate about,” the judges said.
Contributing to industry improvement were also reasons why AMP Capital’s Debbie Alliston and Sunsuper’s Sue Berman were selected as finalists.
“Debbie has delivered an enviable track record at the portfolio level via implementing a robust investment process, incorporating numerous team members. Strong results across investment outcomes, contribution to the organisational strategy, product development and focusing on important industry considerations like investor communication”
“Sue has excelled in terms of not only her investment performance for members, but also her assessment of and respect for portfolio risk. These risk-adjusted performance outcomes have been made possible by the implementation of a robust investment framework where Sue was both the architect and the implementer.”
