Suncorp admits super data breach
Some members of Suncorp’s Brighter Super product have been told their personal information may have been made temporarily available to other members.
Suncorp has written to members of the relatively new product informing them that the firm recently discovered a system error within the Suncorp Brighter Super Website “that made it possible for other members to temporarily view your personal information”.
“The personal information included your name, address, date of birth, member number, tax file number and employer information,” the letter said.
It said that once identified, the issue was resolved swiftly and that an investigation revealed that “less than 40 members may have accessed files that contained personal information of other members”.
The letter, signed by Suncorp executive general manager, deposits and investments, Bruce Rush then recommended clients review their Suncorp Brighter Super account, update their login information and change their password on a regular basis. The firm said it had contacted the Office of the Information Commissioner to advise it of the issue.
