Come clean on superannuation taxes, says Mathias Cormann
The Federal Opposition has called on the Treasurer, Wayne Swan, to rule out any further increased tax charges or levies on the superannuation system.
The call was made by the Shadow Assistant Treasurer, Senator Mathias Cormann, who pointed to comments by the Secretary of the Treasury, Martin Parkinson, to suggest that the tax regime around superannuation might be facing further change.
Cormann said that while, on the one hand the Government claimed to be raising the superannuation guarantee to 12 per cent, on the other it was refusing to rule out more tax hikes.
The Opposition spokesman said the Treasurer needed to clear the air on the issue because Australians responsibly planning their retirement needed assurances that the Government was not going to change the rules once again.
