The days of written manuals and face-to-face training could be at an end, after Midwinter today announced the launch of ‘The Midwinter Academy,' a training portal that allows advisers to undertake customised, solution-specific training on any device.

The Midwinter Academy was the next paver in the digital pathway for the company, which was aiming digitally transform the financial planning space.

Chief of technology and executive director, Andrew McClelland, said the Academy had been developed out of observation of user habits.

"We have noticed a rapid increase in demand for our users to undertake training and support digitally, rather than through traditional methods," he said.

"We have developed a state of the art one stop training shop where users are able to log in to one intuitive, simple and easy to navigate portal."

McClelland said his organisation was working to bridge the gap that licensees and large practices faced of retraining staff when upgrading to new software.

"One of the biggest hurdles they face during the transition period is training their staff on the new solution," he said.

"The Midwinter Academy was created as a result of identifying this issue, ensuring that software training undertaken during a transition is done with minimal disturbance to advice businesses."

Users would have access to a range of courses on product analysis, client engagement, datafeeds and reviews and licensee management, in addition to insurance advice, webinars, video tutorials and paperless training manuals.

"With the introduction of FOFA, advisers have... a formal obligation to act in their client's best interest; the importance of strategy and scenario modelling has now taken centre stage," McClelland said.

"With increased complexity of strategies, advisers are turning to their software providers for assistance."
