Women in finance to benefit from Plato IM, UTS partnership
With women heavily under-represented in the financial services sector, and numbers in funds management particularly low, Plato Investment Management has sought to partner with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) to offer a scholarship and potential internship to an exceptional female undergraduate student.
Plato’s managing director, Don Hamson, said the diversity of people, ideas and experiences was just as important for success as the diversity of funds, and the firm’s partnership with UTS was an important step towards empowering talented women to join the funds management profession and create a more sustainable and equitable future.
“This starts with building the pipeline at the university level and doing what we can to improve the number of women applying for jobs and holding leadership positions,” he said. ‘
Hamson said he hoped the Plato Investment Management Women in Finance Scholarship, worth $5000, would encourage young women to consider the investment management path, and the internship would help them get a foot in the door.
UTS student, Anita Ren, was the first recipient of the scholarship this year.
