Michael Hawker is to depart the board of Macquarie Group at the end of October.

Macquarie Group announced to the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) today that Hawker would be retiring from the boards of Macquarie Group and Macquarie Bank at the end of October, having spent more than 10 years with the company.

Macquarie chairman, Peter Warne said Hawker had been an Independent Voting Director on both boards since March 2010 and that given the tenure limits applying to directors he had advised he would like to consider alternative board positions that continued to draw on his expertise and experience in the financial services industry.

Hawker was chief executive and managing director of Insurance Australia Group from 2001 to 2008 and previously held senior positions at Wesptac and Citibank.
