Energy financing start-up, Brighte, has been named Australia’s FinTech leader of the year at the industry-backed 2018 Finnies Awards, with the award picked up by CEO and ex-Macquarie Group senior manager, Katherine McConnell.

The start-up, which last month secured $18.5 million in additional funding, was given the honour by 81 domestic and international judges, and was among 23 awards handed out at the gala ceremony.

McConnell founded Brighte just three years ago following a 16-year career in investment banking and financial services, which included a stint at Macquarie Bank.

The entrepreneuse’s company provides on-the-spot finance for energy home improvements, such as solar panels, insulation and batteries, following a short application process of two minutes and a credit outcome in nine seconds.

Since the fintech launched 18 months ago, the start-up has approved over $50 million of applications from over 6,000 Australian homeowners.

Other leaders recognised for their achievements included blockchain company, Civic Ledger, and retail fintech, Afterpay.
