Former head of investments at Zurich Matthew Drennan has been appointed chief investment officer of SFG Australia portfolio construction offshoot, Mosaic Portfolio Advisers.

Drennan's appointment was announced today by SFG Australia chief operating officer and acting chief executive John Cowan.

He said that as chief investment officer, Drennan would be responsible for innovation in Mosaic's funds and portfolio service, manager selection and managing the group's recommended portfolios.

Cowan said Drennan would be assuming the responsibilities of Mosaic's current head of Group Portfolio Management, John Nunan, who is leaving the group in March.

Drennan is a columnist for Money Management.
