BNY Mellon IM appoints chief economist
BNY Mellon Investment Management has appointed Shamik Dhar as chief economist, to conduct proprietary research and analysis, and develop economic commentary.
Dhar has over 30 years’ experience advising governments and institutions, with positions at the Bank of England, Aviva Investors, and several economic and financial consultancies.
He joined BNY Mellon IM from the UK government’s foreign and Commonwealth office, where he has been the chief economist since September 2014.
Mitchell Harris, chief executive officer of BNY Mellon, said the ability to arm investors with insightful guidance on the economic environment was vital and Dhar’s deep experience would provide clients with macroeconomic and investment perspective.
“The ability to take into account a changing global economy and market environment has never been more important as investors increasingly seek specialised investment advice and strategies for their specific goals,” Dhar said.
