American Century poaches ESG head from Schroders

American Century Investments has hired Sarah Bratton Hughes as senior vice president and head of environmental, social and governance (ESG) and sustainable investing.

She would be responsible for driving the firm’s sustainable investing strategy and managing its ESG research platform. Her team would serve as the center of ESG expertise for the firm including research, assessment tools, ESG engagement and proxy voting tools.

Prior to joining American Century, she was global head of sustainability solutions at Schroders where she worked for 10 years.

Victor Zhang, senior vice president and chief investment officer at American Century, said: “Over the past five years, we have made tremendous progress in our ESG efforts, building a solid foundation, deepening our ESG knowledge and developing innovative tools and resources. As we look ahead, we want to accelerate our sustainable investing efforts and believe Sarah will help take us to that next level.

“In hiring Sarah, we have added to our team a talented ESG and sustainable investing leader with a distinguished reputation in the industry.”

Hughes joined the firm on 3 January, 2022, and was based in New York.
