Experience pays off for Invesco
InvescoAustraliahas been named the top six star manager byInvestorWebin the area of Australian equities (small companies) on the back of long-term outperformance, an ability to limit losses and solid stock picking capabilities.
InvestorWeb analyst Ben Davis says the strong risk-adjusted returns by Invesco over the last three years have exceeded the benchmark by 17 per cent and the sector median returns by 10 per cent.
“Invesco has purchased stable stocks in companies with stable management, and while it was a good market for fund managers with this bias, Invesco has performed above them,” Davis says.
He attributes the stock picking capabilities to the two person investment management team of Ross Wilkinson and Cynthia Jenkins.
The duo brings over three decades of experience to the task and more than eight years together at Invesco, with Wilkinson also flagging this depth of experience as a key factor.
“We’ve been through a few market cycles and so we are aware of the importance of sticking to fundamental valuations of companies within a value investing style,” Wilkinson says.
“We have scored wins in the traditional investment sectors and found earnings growth and increases in valuations, so people have been prepared to invest with us.”
The key to Invesco’s success, according to Davis, has been the ability to limit losses when they came, gains that were routinely maximised and a diversification in the portfolio which has been constructed with a sensible conservative overlay.
