CFA launches ethics workshop
The CFA Institute has announced plans to launch an ongoing ethics workshop for their members and employers.
The two-hour ethics training workshop incorporates eight real-life case studies that will be discussed at length and is based on the ethical principles embodied in the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.
CFA Society of Sydney president Olivia Engel said there are very few opportunities for people in the industry to receive such training in ethical principles.
“Employers were calling us asking for this sort of training because there is really nothing like it at the moment, so the program was demand driven,” she said.
According to Engel, with current market volatility and growing concerns around disclosure, the workshops are designed to provide financial analysts with up-to-date information on how to analyse everyday investment decisions from an ethical perspective and utilise appropriate professional conduct.
“Ethics is a very important topic in capital markets. It’s all about trust and investor confidence in a company. Breach of that trust can result in risk aversion, higher cost of capital, unneeded volatility and over regulation.”
The CFA Institute has held one member event and two in-house workshops for employers, one at AMP Capital and one at Maple Brown Abbott.
