ING Direct is expanding its range of retail banking products and services and announcing the newly-created position of head of retail banking within the bank's executive team, which will be filled by former Westpac head of marketing sales and services, Melanie Evans.

Evans would join ING Direct from her position at Westpac, where she had worked across a number of roles in retail banking, broking, marketing and strategy, wealth and business transformation over 16 years. Evans previously held several positions with BT Financial Group, as well as at St George Bank.

ING Direct chief executive, Uday Sareen, said Evans' appointment was reflective of her wide range of experiences.

"I am delighted to have Melanie join our team. She's been a high achiever in Australian financial services," he said.

"[She] will be an asset to ING as we grow our business and scale digital capability across products and services."
