International investment manager, Neuberger Berman, is awaiting regulatory approval after appointing BlackRock's head of Taiwan retail clients, Jovi Chen, as general manager of its growing Taiwan business.

The appointment follows the firm's application for a Securities Investment Trust Enterprise (SITE) licence, to distribute onshore funds into the Taiwan market.

Neuberger Berman reported its Taiwan office manages "approximately US$1.53 billion in assets (as at 31 December 2015)" on behalf of Taiwan-domiciled clients.

Neuberger Berman head of Asia Pacific, Nick Hoar, said Chen alongside the firm's Taiwan office founders, Tony Huang and Emma Chen, will direct its growing business in the market.

"As we continue to broaden and deepen our client-base in Taiwan it is important that we have experienced professionals with local expertise to provide the best possible service to them," Hoar said.

"We are therefore delighted that Jovi is joining us. His local knowledge and extensive experience will be a valuable addition to our already strong team.

"Working alongside Emma, Tony and the team, we look forward to Jovi's contribution to our expanding business."
