Melbourne-based accountant, Jason Demot Cullen has been charged with two accounts of authorising the making of false and misleading documents, according to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).

The charges were brought before the regulator which alleged that on 19 January 2012 and 9 August 2012, Cullen engaged to provide services to satellite communications provider, NewSat Limited, which authorised the making of two false or misleading invoices.

NewSat Limited was formerly listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) and went into liquidation in August 2015.

“Those invoices caused NewSat to make payments amounting to $275,000 to a private company associated with the company’s former chief executive officer, Mr Adrian Ballintine,” ASIC said.

A hearing in relation to the charges would be held on 6 March 2018.
