THE recent sudden death of Australia’s largest dairy farmer and visionary industry leader Paul Moxey was much mourned in the industry.

He died, aged 45, after surgery for brain cancer, leaving a bereaved young family.

So what has this got to do with financial planning, you ask? The latest edition of theQueensland Dairyfarmernewsletter has a respectful notice of Moxey’s death.

Immediately underneath is Regional Financial Services column on financial planning with the headline: “Dying is the least of your worries”.

The opening paragraph starts: “Don’t worry about dying. It’s how long you will live that is fast-becoming the real problem in the bush.”

The article goes on to discuss retirement income – a necessary consideration as rural folk enjoy long lives these days.

Perhaps a column that might have been better held over for a couple of issues.
